VIJAYPUR, Oct 22: Former Minister and JKPCC general secretary, Manjit Singh today demanded naming of Jammu Airport after the name of Maharaja Gulab Singh.
“The demand which was raised by Dr Karan Singh is genuine and the Government should immediately announce the name of Jammu Airport. Being founder of Jammu and Kashmir, the Government should not have any objection,” said Manjit Singh while addressing a meeting here at a village Ranjari.
The meeting was organized by retired banker Inderpal Singh.
Speaking on the occasion, Manjit Singh said, “We should give our tribute to the Maharaja Gulab Singh for was known for Dogra rule in Jammu and Kashmir.”
Referring to the instability within Government, he said, BJP which beats its chest for Jammu’s rights has now compromised on all the issues being faced by the people of the region.
“There is supremacy of one region. The ruling parties have created divisions for their own gains. There is no development in Jammu. Unemployment has increased and farmers have been suffering badly,” he said.
He said that the developmental projects which were started by the Congress Government in the past are facing ignorance from the present Government. “BJP has forced officials to stop working on the developmental works which were initiated by the Congress Govt and don’t allow the work to complete,” he alleged.
Citing an example, he said, road from Raya Morh to Suchani towards Central University of Jammu is in shabby and there is no one to look into the grave issue.
Former Minister said that BJP-PDP has miserably failed to keep Jammu and Kashmir united and many controversies have erupted. He appealed the people to re-express trust in Congress party which is able to keep Jammu and Kashmir united.
He said that Congress party is the only political party in Jammu and Kashmir which can unite the State as well as keep the phase of development rolling without any biased approach towards any region.
