RAJOURI, Dec 15: Minister for Public Works, Naeem Akhtar today stressed on the need to inculcate moral values and ethics among the students who become the future leaders and guide the nation towards the path of development.
The Minister was addressing a gathering of scholars, students and academicians at the 13th Foundation Day celebrations of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) here.
“It is imperative for the students of the University to realize the spiritual essence of being a part of legacy left behind by Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah and be the torch bearers of peace and humanity,” the Minister said.

MLA Rajouri Chowdhary Qamar Hussain, Vice Chancellor, BGSBU Prof Javed Musarrat, Professors and staff of the University were also present on the occasion.
The Minister advised them to be more forthcoming and move beyond the subcontinent and join South Asian nations through knowledge gathering process, research culture, job skills and training etc.
He stressed that the contemporary times require students not only to excel in their respective fields but also develop an interdisciplinary and global perspective, practice humanitarian values and seek knowledge for the betterment of humanity.
Asking them to work hard to achieve their goals, the Minister said only those who work with honesty, dedication, efficiency and vision for progress leave a mark on the society.
Congratulating the management for its unprecedented contribution in the field of education, the Minister appreciated the efforts of the University for being a frontrunner in providing quality education to the students and encouraging them to take up research activities.
Meanwhile, VC, BGSBU shared achievements of the University in different fields and informed that efforts are underway to transform the University orientation from teaching to research.
He further said the University has announced five awards in different categories for inculcating passion for research among the students. The University has started 13 new courses and has developed state of the art infrastructure for various academic and administrative divisions, he added.
The Foundation Day also saw felicitation of Prof. Ali Asghar and Dr. Shamas Kamal for their outstanding contribution in the field of Research in Science and Humanities respectively. Afreen Rashid and Munatzir Rahim were awarded the best sports persons in male and female category.
Later, the Minister also released the Calendar and Anthem of the University.
ADC A.S Chib, SSP YougalManhas, Registrar Prof. Iqbal Parvaiz, eminent academicians Farooq Muztar, Nisar Rahi and Khurshid Bismil, faculty members and students participated in the celebrations.
