JAMMU, Oct 12: In what may be called a true symbol of Hindu-Muslim brotherhood, about 50 artists including Hindu and Muslim from Uttar Pradesh are making the effigies of Ravana, Meghnath and Kumbhkarna for last about 33 years.

Taking to Excelsior, Mohd Rian, the head artist told that there are about 50 artists in their group (35 Hindus and 15 Muslims) and all of them belong to same village of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. We live together, eat together and celebrate each other’s festivals together. “For last about 33 years, we are making towering effigies of Ravana, Meghnath and Kumbhkarna to be burnt on holy Hindu festival Dussehra, which mark the victory of good over evil”, he added.
“We come every year at Jammu on the call of Sanatan Dharam Sabha, Geeta Bhawan, Jammu and make towering effigies of Ravana, Meghnath and Kumbhkarna not only for Jammu city but also for other parts of the Jammu like Channi, Gandhi Nagar, Akhnoor, Sainik Colony. Besides, the effigies made by us also go to other regions and districts of the State including Srinagar, Leh, Poonch, Rajouri, Nowshera, Reasi, etc”, he added.
Mohd Rian said making effigies is just not their profession but passion and a mode to give a message to the public at large as if ‘we Hindu-Muslims artists can live and work together peacefully and happily why not others’.
