Mushtaq Kak’s “Ishq Malangi” creates magic in Hyderabad

JAMMU, Nov 3: Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee and Ace Director, Mushtaq Kak’s most acclaimed play “Ishq Malangi” written by Khalid Hussain and dramatised by Pritam Katoch created magic that spell bound the audience in one of the largest theatre assemblies in the subcontinent, Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Festival in its 12th edition held at Hyderabad in Telangana.
The musical presentation and keenness of the performers was something which left the audiences stunned.
The 10-day, multi-venue, multi-lingual festival this year featured host of the best plays from across the country and overseas.
The Qadir Ali Baig festival was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana, Mohammed Mahmood Ali. The festival was chaired by Begum Razia Baig, Nadira Zaheer Babbar addressed it and Neelam Man Singh gave the keynote address.
Master classes were conducted by various famous personalities including Mahesh Dattani, Feisal Alkazi, Thoka Tharani, Manav Kaul and others.
The festival was presented by Karvy and co-sponsored by Shadan Group of Institutions, in association with Golden Jubilee Hotels, Information and Public Relations Government of Telangana, British Council and British Film Institute.
“Ishq Malangi” play portrays the tale of true and unconditional love during the era of 1940s when Jammu City was a small town with a red light area called as Urdu Bazar having few houses which were known as Kothas and frequented by the affluent sections of society for their entertainment through music and dance. It is pertinent to mention that Ishq Malangi has already been staged at various theatre festivals across country and acclaimed as one of the outstanding presentations of Amateur Theatre Group.
Artists who performed in the play were Sandeep Verma as Khalid Hussain, Madan Rangeela as Thanedar, Janak Khajuria as Gama Nai, Vivek Sangotra as Kale Khan, Mohit Chib as Gajje Singh, Ankit Sharma as Gaffura, Rishabh as Yousuf, Suman Pandita as Shadan, Kanchi Khajuria as Firoza and Mohit Purie as Medha. Aman designed music, Lights were designed by Sunil Sharma and stage was designed by Ifra Kak.
