JAMMU, Jan 9: Amateur Theatre Group, Jammu has once again brought laurels to the State as the group has been invited to participate in the Bahuroopi International Multilingual Theatre Festival to be organized at Mysore from January 13 to 18.
During the festival, 11 plays from across the country and four plays from abroad, including Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Poland, will be presented. Mushtaq Kak, the Director of ATG, has been invited to present Urdu play ‘Ishq Malangi’ based on Khalid Hussain’s two short stories, dramatized by Pritam Katoch.
The play ‘Ishq Malangi’ is a portrayal of eternal love of those, who have no desires or lust but only loyalty, dedication and deepest commitment towards their loved ones. The beloved is not necessarily a human being, it can also be the creator of the world, the beloved of all those, who believe in harmony, peace and brotherhood.
The play is a complete package for the audience with perfect elements of Sufiyana poetry, Ghazals, meaningful dialogues and catchy music. The play showcases the era of late 1940s, when Jammu city was a small town with a red light area known as Urdu Bazar. There were also a few houses, known as Kothas, which were frequently visited by influential sections of society for entertainment through music and dance.
The play has been directed by veteran theatre director and Sangeet Natak Academy Award Winner, Mushtaq Kak, who was earlier associated with Shri Ram Centre for Performing Arts, New Delhi as Artistic Director. He has also received the Best Director Award for Andha Yug, Malika and Pratibimb.
