This has reference to the news item ‘Municipal polls from Oct 1- Nov 5” DE Sept 1.
Finally, the Government has announced dates for the much delayed Municipal and Panchayat polls. Though earlier also, the PDP-BJP coalition Government had shown inclination to hold these elections, it couldn’t hold the same on one pretext or the other. One hopes that the elections are conducted in a free and fair manner keeping the security situation of the State in view.
These elections are a must for executing development works, and bring democracy to the grass root level. In absence of these bodies, the State has suffered enormous financial loss, as it could not receive the mandatory Central grants to the tune of crores of rupees. If these elections are conducted as per schedule, it will be really a good achievement for the Government and people of the State. The State will also witness job creation for the unemployed youth who are very much dejected and depressed.
