Municipal employees stage protest for release of salary

JAMMU, Sept 6: Civic Safai Karamchari Union (CSKU), Drivers and Cleaners’ Union and Clerical Union of JMC today staged a joint protest demonstration at Town Hall, Municipal Corporation, Jammu in support of their burning demands.
A large number of Safai Karamcharis, drivers, cleaners and clerical cadre of JMC participated in the protest by gathering at Town Hall and raising slogans against the authorities as well as Government for not fulfilling their demands.
Addressing the protesting employees, Rinku Gill, president, Civic Safai Karamchari Union, said that Safai Karamcharis and skilled workers working under NGO contract system in the Corporation are not getting their pay timely, as they are yet to receive salary of the month of July. He demanded to immediately release pending salary of such workers and pay them timely henceforth.
He further said that Government has raised the salary of skilled NGO workers on October 26 last year but the administration is sitting over their files, thereby depriving them of enhanced salary. Besides this, he said that about 10 employees working in MVO Section are without salary for last 2 months.
“Administration had advertised 600 posts of Safai Karamcharis in the month of June this year but till today the date of conducting the interview the candidates has not fixed”, Gill said and stressed upon the administration to take an early decision in the matter. He also demanded release the file of welfare fund of the employees.
Rinku Gill said that they met several times with Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Jammu and submitted their demands but no positive action was taken till date, which forced them to stage a one-day protest today. But if their genuine demands are not fulfilled, they will not hesitate in intensifying the agitation.
