Multi-pronged strategy to deal with law and order, militancy: Muneer Khan

Srinagar, May 17:Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Muneer Ahmad Khan, today said that a multi-pronged strategy would be adopted to tackle the law and order situation and militancy in Kashmir and urged students to focus on their studies.
Khan told Excelsior that a multi-pronged strategy would be adopted for tacking law and order and militancy in Kashmir. He said that it is new situation in Kashmir especially in South and a new strategy would be adopted as per demand of the situation so that peace is restored.
“There are some people who don’t know why they are carrying out stone pelting or taking part in protests. The main culprits will be tackled first so that the issues are addressed effectively”, he said.
“We will try our best to set things rights and restore peace in Kashmir. Things are not as bad here as are being portrayed,” he said.
Khan appealed to the students to concentrate on studies as without education, no one can excel in his life.
“Educational is basic thing for every profession. Please focus on education and don’t harm it. If education suffers, it is biggest loss to society”, said Khan, adding “If the students have any grievances, they should approach the appropriate forum where their grievances will be redressed. Stone pelting and taking to streets does not suit students who are the future of our society.” .
Khan appealed people to help in restoring peace in Kashmir. “I am a lover of peace and my message to all is to help in bringing peace. Peace should prevail. I appeal all, with hands folded, to help in peace. Let’s us all live in peace,” he said.
“It is not an IGP saying, but Munir Khan, a concerned citizen of the State, who represents police, and who has concern for businessmen, tourists, students and all the people of the State,” he said.
On locals joining militancy, Khan said it is alarming scenario. “We will look into what prompts them to join militancy and we will try to address those issues”, he said.
Asked about the continuous detention of Hurriyat leaders, the IGP said that “if situation improves, they won’t face such situation”. “We allowed him (Geelani) medical consultation today,” he said.
Khan said that Police will provide help to the law abiding citizens. He said if any one has any grievance it will be addressed and action will be taken against corrupt and excesses will not be tolerated.
On social media ban, the IGP said that if anything is misused it will be stopped adding “for proper use we have no objection.”
Earlier, Khan took over the charge as Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone from Syed Javaid Mujtaba Gillani in a brief ceremony at Zonal Police Headquarters at Srinagar this morning.
