Muftis, Abdullahs must stop politics of appeasement: Vakil

Excelsior Correspondent
SRINAGAR, Aug 26: Supporting the strike call on August 30-31 in Kashmir over the issue of Article 35 A, president Jammu and Kashmir Bachavo Tehreek and former Minister Abdul Gani Vakil today said that any direct or indirect move to abrogate Article 35-A will be sternly dealt by J&K.
In a statement issued here today, Vakil urged all the mainstream parties to get united in the struggle for protecting special identity of J&K State.
“Mehbooba Mufti, Farooq Abdullah and others must not hesitate to boycott polls if Centre fails to guarantee safeguarding of Article 35- A. They should stop this policy of appeasement and draw concrete measures to safeguard Article 35-A. By just issuing statements won’t work. Muftis and Abdullahs need to tell Delhi that they will boycott polls if no concrete assurance comes on Article 35A, “Vakil said.
He said that nobody can deny this fact that the situation that has arisen due to threat to Article 35-A in J&K is an outcome of a well planned and devised conspiracy hatched by some top national leaders as they are backing the handful people contesting and challenging special identity of the J&K State on flimsy grounds.
Vakil made it clear that issuing statements on the subject with the intention of gaining political mileage is not going to yield any results unless and until something tangible and solid is not done for protecting and safeguarding Article 35-A. He also said that Govt. of India must be acquainted of the dangerous consequences that can follow the abrogation of Article-35 A and in this regard it is obligatory on the part of the mainstream parties of J&K State to put in sincere efforts to meet the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister and other leaders on the issue and convince them that Govt of India must defend the Article 35-A in Supreme Court.
He said that option of boycotting the forthcoming Local Bodies and Panchayat elections must be explored so that leadership in Delhi can be brought out of the slumber and compelled to understand the ground reality.
