SRINAGAR, Oct 30: Former Chief Minister and PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today sought the support of the State’s youth in his party’s enterprise of hope to find a way out for J&K’s political and economic problems and party’s development agenda.
Addressing party workers’ convention at Tangmarg today, Mufti Sayeed said that in coming days PDP will have a critical role to play and a great responsibility to discharge in shaping up a politically stable and economically emancipated State for which it will need the support of the State’s young population. “I reiterate my party’s resolve to offer the State’s young population a greater voice in political decision-making and partnering with them to usher Jammu and Kashmir into a refreshing era of peace, progress and prosperity,” Mufti said.
Mufti said PDP has given mandate to several young politicians for the upcoming Assembly elections, so that they can represent the urges and aspirations of the State’s young population in a more effective manner. “PDP has a unique correlation with the youth as the party itself is young and growing. We understand and identify better with the problems of our young population as we as a party are ourselves young and growing with them,” he said and added that the youth in Jammu & Kashmir need extraordinary attention.
The PDP stalwart further said that in order to avoid further deterioration of the situation for the coming generations the State’s political leadership needs to respect and ensure the rights of its youth. “This requires a determined effort of lending economical, social and political support to the young people, both men and women equally,” he maintained.
He said his Government had between 2002 and 2005 initiated various innovative measures for tackling economic deprivation among the youth. “We would accomplish the unfinished agenda of youth empowerment by employing various strategies including creation of entry-level positions and other opportunities so that young people can gain the experience necessary for work in the formal economy, skills training, access to financing for youth-led employment initiatives, institutional commitment and support, right to participate in policy decision-making on youth issues, recognition of youths as a resource and special attention to youth employment problems,” he said and added that youth employment would be integral to PDP Government’s overall strategy for development and collective security.
Mufti said PDP visualizes and is striving for a space of dignity and opportunity for the people of Jammu & Kashmir in a larger paradigm of friendship between India and Pakistan. He said PDP strongly believes that nothing is valid and should be happening for Jammu & Kashmir except with the active involvement of its people.
He expressed the hope that in the coming years, tourism industry in the State is going to witness phenomenal growth for which the Government and the private sector will have to redouble their efforts to make available the quality infrastructure.
Molvi Aabid Ansari, candidate for Zadibal Constituency; Naeem Akhtar, chief spokesperson; Mohammad Abass Wani, candidate for Tangmarg constituency; Prof Abdul Jabbar, Abdul Aziz Dar and others were also present and spoke on the occasion.
