MP, MLAs call on Governor

Srinagar, July 13: Muzzafar Hussain Baig, Member of Parliament, met Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan today.
Baig discussed with Governor important issues relating to the equitable development of the State and the need to ensure the high success of various schemes and programmes in the “Aspirational” Districts of Baramulla and Kupwara.
Governor urged Baig to remain fully involved and see that all the flagship programmes were fully implemented not only in his constituency but all over the State. Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali, former Minister and MLA Darhal also met Governor and briefed him about the ongoing schemes in his constituency and projected certain demands which included attention to making educational institutions functional; upgradation of schools; establishment of Kendriya  Vidayalya at Nagrota, Rajouri; four laning of Jammu Akhnoor Poonch  road; establishment of Receiving Station for Rajouri and boosting tourism potential of Rajouri and Poonch.
Zulfkar drew Governor’s attention to the need for implementing various relevant laws and earmarked budget provisions to promote the interests of the Tribal Community and reservation in promotion of SC and ST as per directions of the Supreme Court.
Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar, MLA Ganderbal  informed Governor about the problems relating to the implementation of certain major development projects in Ganderbal district, particularly the non commencement of work to implement the New Ganderbal HE Power Project; function of the new Unani College and shifting of Central University Kashmir from Srinagar to Ganderbal.
Governor observed that Sheikh’s concerns would be urgently looked into and urged him to continue his efforts for promoting a peaceful environment in his area.
Mian Altaf Ahmad, Member J&K Legislative Assembly from Kangan also called on Governor and informed him about various major developmental issues which require high priority attention in his constituency, particularly road connectivity and power generation, and issues relating to the implementation of development schemes for the tribal community in J&K.
Governor and Mian Altaf also discussed issues relating to the ongoing Shri Amarnathji Yatra.
A 5 member delegation led by Manjinder Singh Sirsa, MLA Delhi Legislative Assembly also  met Governor and apprised him about the hardships being faced by the Sikh community in J&K, particularly by the migrated Sikh families from Pak Occupied J&K (POJK).
They demanded grant of minority status to the Sikhs; implementation of “Anand Marriage Act” for marriage registration of Sikhs;  relief package for Sikhs displaced from PoJK and  those affected due to militancy in the Valley; reservation for displaced Sikhs families in Govt. jobs, school and college admissions; employment packages for the Sikhs; updating registration list of displaced Sikh families; reservation of seats in Legislative Assembly; provision of housing colonies for DPs; renaming Sikh Displaced Persons as ‘Sikh Migrants’ and one time settlement of DPs as per compensation package calculated on the guidelines of Joint Parliamentary Committee of Home Affairs’ Report No. 183.
The delegation also expressed grave concern over the attempted forceful conversion of a Sikh girl studying in IUST, Awantipora.
Governor assured the delegation that the issues raised by them would receive due consideration.
