Mountain Fire wins World’s Highest Rafting & Kayaking competition

LEH, Aug 20: First ever water sport ‘World Highest Rafting & Kayaking’ competition was held held on Zanskar river, here.
As many as 22 rafting teams including Army, ITBP, Air Force and 62 Kayakers from different parts of the Nation participated in the day-long competition inaugurated by MLA Nawang Rigzin Jora.
Lone female participant from Nepal Goma Sonuwar working for Aquafire Rafting Adventure also took part in the Kayaking competition.
The event was jointly organized by All Ladakh Rating Operators (ALRO) in collaboration of All Ladakh Tour Operators Association (ALTOA) to promote adventure sports in Ladakh. Covering a distance of 14 Kilometers in 40 minutes and 10 seconds on Zanskar river from Skorpochey to Sangham Rafting team “Mountain Fire” won the Rafting competition followed by ITBP team as runners-up..
In the Kayaking section Rishi Rana was the winner followed by Shivam Gurung as runners-up.
Appreciating the organisers for conducting such competition ITBP DIG JP Yadav expressed his hope that in future this event will become International level event just like Ladakh Marathon and Ice Hockey tournament.
ALRO President Tsering Angchuk Nyaga said that Zanskar River is one of the five best Rivers in India for white water Rafting and organising such competition on Zanskar River not only give boost to the tourism industry in Ladakh but it would also encourage the water sports activities in Ladakh.
ALTOA President Tsetan Angchok mentioning about growing River Rafting tourist in Ladakh said that Ladakh is hub of adventure activities and Tour operators in Ladakh with limited infrastructure is working very hard to take it to new height.
ALRO Vice President Rinchen Nima Jora and Kunthus Tsogspa Neemo, President Gyaltsan also spoke on the occasion.
Chief Guest distributed trophies and certificate to winners, runner up team and participating members.
