JAMMU, Jan 27: Usha Vohra, First Lady, observed that women are pivotal to a family and play a potent role in character building of their children.
She said this on the occasion of “Ladies Cultural Programme” organized by Department of Youth Services and Sports, as a part of Republic Day celebrations at Gulshan Ground here.
Emphasizing the importance of women in parenting a child, the First Lady said that it is the mother who appeals more to a child during the initial years of infancy and if she imbues her children with the right values and discipline, then a child would grow up to be an asset for the family and society.
She said that aberrations in the society could be decreased considerably, if women discipline their children at the early age  and teach them to respect women and elders.
The First Lady complimented the participants on the presentation of a very high quality cultural programme and appreciated the teachers and students from different educational institutions and participants from Women Welfare Organisation for showcasing variety of cultural items based on the themes of national integration, female foeticide and women empowerment.
Naveen Aggarwal, Director General, Youth Services and Sports presented the welcome address and Seema Aggarwal, presented a vote of thanks on the occasion.
