NEW DELHI, Feb 8: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh said here today that Narendra Modi had changed the youth perception about politicians.
Speaking at an interactive session with the newly passed-out batch of postgraduate students from “Indian Institute of Democratic Leadership” (IIDL), Dr Jitendra Singh said, the story of Narendra Modi’s journey from a Railway platform to the highest office of Prime Minister has inspired the faith of youth in the strength of Indian democracy, and is now motivating more and more number of youngsters to aspire for a career in public life and to look forward to a political assignment as a responsibility to be performed with sincerity, honesty and commitment.
Before Modi came in, Dr Jitendra Singh said, there was a widespread cynicism in the common man about political leaders. The common perception about a politician was that of someone who was self-centered, dishonest and caring only for his own family members or blue-eyed boys. With Modi at the helm, he said, the country is witnessing a new political culture, wherein every child, borne even in the smallest household, can dream of raising to the highest office in the country, even without any advantage of family lineage or patronage.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, the first few decades after independence carried the baggage of the feudal past of colonial rule and therefore, dynasties dominated the scene. However, India today is dominated by third generation post-independence which carries no baggage from the past and is ready to compete from a level playing field.
Citing the illustrious examples of young achievers like Gita Gopinath, Head of International Monetary Fund and Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the present generation of under-30 Indians has the advantage that the entire world today, including the most advanced nations, look up to Indian youth with great regard and formidable reverence for their talent, hard work and dedication.
The group of young students who interacted with Dr Jitendra Singh, hailed from ten different States of India and came from different streams of academics before taking up the post-graduation course in the IIDL.
