Modern technology should be used for promotion of Sanskrit: President

NEW DELHI: President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday said that modern technology should be used for promotion of Sanskrit.
Addressing the 17th Convocation of Lal Bahadur Shastri Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth here, he said that the institution had established a healthy tradition of academics, research and publications in the last 55 years.
The Vidyapeeth has a modern science faculty and students are taught contemporary topics like environmental sciences and human rights. There is a Centre for Computer Applications as well.
Mr Kovind said that Lal Bahadur Shastri was a national icon who embodied Indian values and was a model of simple living, sacrifice and virtue.
“Students of the Vidyapeeth must imbibe his ideals and propagate them,” he said.
According to the President, education should be in pursuit of character building and to make a person sensitive and empathetic.
“An educated person is one who has a sense of philanthropy and commitment to public interest,” he added.
