Mobile phone is one of the greatest inventions of modern times. It enables people to communicate with their friends and relatives especially, in times of emergency .If internet facility is subscribed to, it can prove to be a great boon for  all the people, especially students. But they say every new invention comes with a price and mobile phone is no exception.
The users of mobile phones, especially the youth are growing so much addicted to the mobile phones that they can miss their meals but can’t spend even a single day without mobile phones.
They keep browsing and chatting on social networsking sites  till late hours at night, leading to loss of sleep and wastage of their precious time and consequent loss of studies.Excessive use of mobile phone also leads to anxiety and stress in them.As and whenever they get time at home, college, buses etc, they busy themselves in texting messages.
The physical activity has been drastically reduced  and most of them don’t have time or urge for playing games and sports. The children often keep themselves busy in their rooms, away from their parents in the same house. As such their social and interpersonal skills are not developing properly. The children feel more comfortable in texting messages on social media rather than conversation. The useful hobby of recreational reading is fast vanishing  and they have little time for novel and creative ideas.
Children are becoming more and more self centred. They can be seen glued to their phones using social media, unaware of what is happening around them.Sometimes, they use mobile phones while driving, which leads to accidents. Many youth have lost their life while taking Selfies near trains, rivers etc.
Pornographic material is easily available on some sites, which adversaly affects their growth and development. Moreover, high radiation may also affect their nervous system adversely, if used for long hours. Those children who can’t afford mobile phones  develop inferiority complex and force their parents to buy them costly phones.
Thus, the need of the hour is that parents should ensure that their children  use mobile phones in moderation. They should guide them to switch off the phones while driving and before going to sleep. The parents also ought to sit and interact with their children and encourage them for playing. They should keep a watch as to which sites their child is browsing and for how long so that they don’t develop phone addiction .No invention,by itself,is good or bad, it is its use or abuse which makes it so and they must teach their children as to how to use this device judiciouly.
