MMU calls for shutdown against NIA summon to Mirwaiz

Srinagar, Mar 12: Muttahid-e-Masjlis Ulema today called for a complete shutdown on Saturday and protest after Friday prayers against summon issued by National Investigation Agency (NIA) to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and ban on Jama’at-e-Islami.
Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam condemned the summoning of Mirwaiz and ban on Jamaat-e-Islami and appealed people to observe complete shutdown on Saturday to protest against the moves. He also called for protests post Friday congregational prayers against such moves.
Muttahid-e-Masjlis Ulema chaired an extra ordinary meeting under the leadership of Mufti Azam Nasirul Islam at historic Mirwaiz Manzil Rajouri Kadal in which clerics and religious scholars from across the Valley participated with regard to the NIA notice sent to the chairman of the Mutahida Ulema council and Mirwaiz of Kashmir Mohammad Umar Farooq.
Mutahida Majlise Ulema expressed solidarity with Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Mohammad Umar Farooq. “We standby Mirwaiz at this time when he is being harassed and victimised by the authorities and would stay shoulder to shoulder with him”, they said.
The meeting strongly condemned the imposition of ban on Jamaat-i- Islami, and arrest of its leaders and cadres and called it a blatant interference in religious affairs meeting also condemned the crackdown on the resistance leadership, killings and harassment of people
The meeting also condemned frequent sealing of Jamia Masjid which is the religious and spiritual epicenter of the lakhs of people of the State and termed the barring of Friday prayers as highly intolerable stating that the move amounts to direct religious interference.
