MLCs demand privilege motion against Drabu

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Jan 23:  The Members from Legislative Council (MLCs) today alleged great discrimination against them with regard to provision of funds for constituency development  and demanded privilege motion against the Finance Minister Dr Haseeb Drabu who despite assurance on the floor of the House did not respond even after four days.
The issue was raised  by PDP member Zaffar Iqbal Manhas in the Upper House that DyCM  had  made commitment during last session at Srinagar to provide rupees  one crore to each legislator for the development of  power infrastructures  including cables/ poles etc in their respective constituencies. But in the recent order issued by the Finance Department  MLCs have been ignored.
All the members including those from opposition stood up and lodged strong protest with the chairman and alleged discrimination. They said Finance Minister during his budget speech four days back had also assured to  rectify the error. Moreover, about ten days back, some MLCs had gone to his office chamber for the same purpose  and he had said that they are legislators and deserve the same treatment. But despite this assurance,  the concerned department has not taken cognizance of the matter while DCs concerned and even senior PDD officials refused to cooperate on the plea that order stands only for MLAs.
Upon this, the Chairman of the State Legislative Council,   Anayat Ali  passed on directions  to the Government to amend the said order and produce the copy in the House before the start of business on Tuesday ( January 24, 2017), otherwise, privilege motion would be initiated against the concerned minister.
Minister for Social Welfare Sajjad Gani Lone who was present in the House assured the House Members to honour the commitment made on the floor of the House by Govt before the given time frame by the Chairman. The members warned to bring privilege motion and also boycott the proceedings if the order was not issued by tomorrow morning.
