MLC, Director Tourism, others call on Governor

SRINAGAR, May 24: Zaffar Manhas, Member, Legislative Council and Vice President, Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL), called on Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here today.
The Governor discussed with Manhas the challenges facing the State and the very useful role which can be played by the Academy in reviving and re-invigorating social, cultural and literary traditions which would go a long way in promoting societal harmony.
Governor also stressed the importance of sustaining peace and normalcy if art and culture are to be promoted.
Mahmood Ahmad Shah, Director Tourism Kashmir also called on Governor and briefed him about the various initiatives being taken by his department for the promotion of tourism in the Kashmir region.
Pointing to the importance of ensuring that the growth of the tourism sector receives sustained high attention, Governor advised Shah to launch well planned initiatives to promote winter tourism and, side by side, implement efforts to thoroughly clean up the major tourist visitation areas, improve the aesthetics and the street picture through façade control of the shopping and other areas visited by most of the tourists.
Prince Yakub Habeebuddin Tucy, a descendent of Babur, the Mughal Emperor also called on Governor and apprised him about his views on the current situation in Kashmir and restoration of peace and normalcy by organizing planned public contact programmes. He sought Governor’s intervention for constitution of Madrassa Board in J&K and involvement of various NGOs for helping youth in finding better avenues for employment.
Governor appreciated Prince Tucy’s tours and lectures in various places in Rajouri and Poonch and his efforts towards the restoration of normalcy in the State. He urged the Prince to continue his honest endeavours towards country’s development and assured him all support.
Bahsir Karnai, and Rafiq Karnai, Managing Partners, Centre Tour and Travels (CTT) apprised the Governor about the varied impediments in the path of tourism promotion in the State. As the CTT head office is being located in Canada, Karnai discussed with the Governor the high potential of bringing an increasing number of tourists from various foreign countries to Kashmir and the benefits which shall accrue from systematically exploiting the high potential of pilgrim tourism in J&K.
