JAMMU, Jan 12: Three Members of Legislative Assembly including one from the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) today lodged strong protest over denial of opportunity to raise issues of their respective areas.
When the Minister for Higher Education Altaf Bukhari finished reply to the question of Mohammad Yousuf Bhat regarding opening of more Degree Colleges, National Conference MLA Abdul Majeed Bhat (Larmi) stood up to raise the supplementary question. In the meanwhile, some more MLAs started inviting attention of the Speaker thereby leading to commotion in the House.
As his demand for supplementary question was not conceded by the Chair, Larmi left his seat in protest and entered the Well of the House. After protesting for some time, Larmi staged walk-out alleging discrimination with the Opposition.
In the meanwhile, PDP MLA Javed Baig, who also wanted to raise supplementary question but failed to get the attention of Speaker, moved towards the Well of the House in protest. “This is grave injustice with us”, he remarked. However, he returned to his seat following intervention by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Abdul Rehman Veeri.
Despite this commotion continued in the House as Usman Majid started pressing for taking up of his question regarding separate development authority for Wullar in Bandipora constituency. “This is very important question but it has not been taken up although the Question Hour is about to end”, he said.
Later, he tore the copy of the written reply furnished to his question.
Soon after the Question Hour, NC MLA from Bishnah Kamal Arora, who earlier held protest in the Well by raising a banner, said that land has been acquired by the Government for construction of Jammu Ring Road Project but the compensation given to the land owners was too meager. He demanded enhancement of compensation.
