MLAs distribute free electricity connections under ‘Saubhagya’

UDHAMPUR, Apr 28:  In continuation with the celebration of ongoing Gram Swaraj Abhiyan, District Administration organized a camp to distribute free electricity connections under Saubhagya Scheme among the beneficiaries of tehsil Udhampur and Chenani here today.
Member Legislative Assembly Udhampur, Pawan Kumar Gupta and MLA Chenani Dina Nath Bhagat were the chief guests,  who formally distributed free electricity connection certificates on the occasion.
District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Ravinder Kumar, Executive Engineer PDD, Rajinder Gupta, Block Development Officer, Rupali Vaid, field functionaries of Power Development Department and large number of people were present on the occasion.
Calling electricity as the basic need of today, MLA  Gupta and Bhagat called upon the people to come forward to avail benefits of various schemes being launched by different departments for their economic upliftment.
As many as 100 free electricity connection certificates were distributed among the people of both the tehsils. It was revealed during the programme that  Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana –“Saubhagya” a new scheme which was launched by the Prime Minister of India to ensure electrification of all willing households in rural as well as urban areas. In this regard, 19 villages of Udhampur district  have already been   identified  as leftover households  for providing free electricity connections.
A LED lamps distribution booth at subsidized rates was also established outside the DC office complex through Rural Electrification Corporation (REC), with coordination of Power Development Department and representative of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL).
