MLA demands ex-gratia for flood hit people of Bani

KATHUA, Sept 24: MLA Bani Jewan Lal Lalhal today demanded ex-gratia relief for the floods and heavy rains affected farmers and other people of Bani and Lohai-Malhar Tehsils whose houses have been damaged, cattle & Sheep killed and standing crops were damaged in flash floods and land slides due to heavy rains which lashed the area on September 22 and 23.
He also demanded restoration of road connectivity, power and water supply in the Bani Sub Division at the earliest. In this regard he took up the matter with Divisional Commissioner, Jammu and DC Kathua today.
He said due to 24 hours heavy rain fall created a havoc in the area and people suffered badly. There is loss of property to a great extent. He took up the issue with PDD officials who stated that one transformer along with polls at village Dhanjuard have been washed away. AEE, PHE, Vikram Dogra informed the MLA that there is huge loss of water pipes in Tehsil Bani and he asked all field functionaries to submit the report within two days. As reported by AEO Bani, Naresh Kumar, AEO Lowang, Sanjay Kumar and AEO, Fatehpur zone, Shsurinder Kumar that about 50% maize crop along with beans crop has been damaged due heavy rains and more details are still awaited. Forest Range Officer, Omesh Charak informed MLA that more than 900 nursery plants have been washed away in Bani nursery. Besides, Manjari Park is badly damaged and its boundary wall has been washed away on both sides.
The MLA said houses, cattle and sheep were killed in flash floods and land slides caused due to heavy rains. Two buses have also been damaged in heavy rains and floods. The SDM Bani, Ajit Singh informed MLA that he has directed all field functionaries to submit the report within two days about the4 damage.
Meanwhile Jewan Lal has conducted extensive tour of Bajhoe, Dull, Chahalo, Lower Thall, Lohai, Malhar, Banjli, Badnota, Saraunthai, DuggBaidal, Haul, Kindli and Machhedi area from September 19 to 22. During his visit, he addressed several public and workers meetings and took stock of public problems and developmental works.
He blamed previous N.C and Congress Governments for step motherly treatment to these areas. He assured that road connectivity, power supply and drinking water supply to most of the areas will be provided soon. He also announced works under C.D.F worth Rs. 40.00 lac in these areas.
