JAMMU, Dec 31: MLA Jammu east, Rajesh Gupta today allocated funds from his CDF for the laying of synthetic turf in the basketball arena in the MA Stadium. In a simple function organized in the basketball courts, he handed over a DO letter of his consent and assured that the work for laying of the turf shall start forthwith.
A delegation of the Basketball players and members of the J&K Basketball Association had approached the MLA, requesting him to allocate funds for the purpose. The MLA acceding to their request readily agreed to allocate additional funds and also offered more help to improve the sports infrastructure using his good office. The Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Simarandeep Jammu had earlier acceded to the demand projected by the SAI authorities and Vice Chairman District Sports Council Jammu, Ranjeet Kalra for laying of the synthetic turf in the Basketball arena. The DC had also directed the engineering wing of the J&K State Sports Council to make a DPR for requisition of funds.
The MLA was welcomed by Ranjeet Kalra, Haji Abdul Qayoom, CSO J&KSSC, Varinder Sharma, Incharge STC Jammu, officers of the SAI and the J&K State Sports Council. Members of the J&K Basketball Association and large number of Basketball Players. He inspected the site handed over the letter of consent to VC district sports council and the CSO J&K SSC.
Rajesh Gupta in his address laid emphasis on promotion of sports amongst the youth. He said that sports unites the youth beyond the fragmentations of religion, caste and region besides keeping them away from the vices like violence and drugs. He also underlined that sports could be a great employment provider for the youth who could in turn help in laying foundation of a healthy society. He assured more help for promotion of sports in future.
Speaking on the occasion, Ranjeet Kalra thanked the MLA for providing funds for the project and appreciated his role in promotion of sports in Jammu. He also thanked DC Jammu for consenting to sponsor the laying of synthetic turf and construction of change rooms. He also commended the leadership of Secretary J&KSSC Waheed ul Rehman Parra for giving impetus to sporting activities across the State.
