Misuse of PM’s scheme

PM’s  Special Scholarship Scheme for the students of J&K seeking admission to Government and private institutions outside the State after passing 12th class examination has been grossly misused by some NGOs and middlemen. They fleeced the parents desirous to send their wards for study outside the State hiding from them the criteria needed for eligibility to win scholarship. A student in Arts faculty gets about 30,000 rupees  per annum as scholarship while engineering and medical line students get more in addition to tuition fee and hostel charges for all. HRD Ministry rejected many applications as these did no fulfill the stipulated criteria. The Government has now stepped in and decided to make selection through its agencies. But the Government should conduct inquiry into the NGOs and individuals who played fraud with students. The money they have taken from parents has to be recovered and a case of felony has to be registered. A large amount of money has been pocked by these unscrupulous agents fraudulently and they have to be brought to the book. It is also important that the Government should find out how many students region-wise have been the beneficiaries of PM’s scheme. There has to be some rationale for making selection of eligible students.
