SRINAGAR, Oct 2: Director General of Police (Prisons), SK Mishra inaugurated the Skills Training Centre for Jail inmates at Central Jail, Srinagar today.
The Skills Training Centre being first of its kind has been established by Prisons Department in collaboration with Art of Living Organization. The basic idea behind this set up is to professionally train inmates in fields such as electrical and computers. The Prisons Department is taking steps to create more training avenues for the inmates for their reformation and successful reintegration into the society.
Speaking on the occasion, the DG Prisons said that reformation of inmates followed by technological upgradation of prisons and staff development are the main areas of interest for the department. He asked the inmates to participate in training programme as these programs are organized for their benefit. He emphasized that learning is lifelong process and it is the mission of the Prisons Department to make imprisonment meaningful for the inmates by developing their skills and talents for which the cooperation of inmates is solicited. He further informed that a young inmate has been identified as trainer by AoL, who shall impart training to fellow inmates in computers and honorarium shall be paid to him.
The inaugural function was followed by a cleanliness campaign under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in which staff, inmates and children participated. Such drives are a part of the ongoing cleanliness campaign in the department.
The DGP claimed that similar drives are being conducted in all jails today to support the nationwide Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
Prominent among others who attended the programme were Director EDI, Parray, Deepak Sharma, Trustee Shri Shri Rural Development Project Trust, Mohd Yaqoob, Faculty the Art of Living, Kiran Pujaro, HoD CSR, Ms Saba Shawl Staff Officer to DGP Prisons and Superintendent Central Jail, Srinagar Hilal Ahmad Rather.
