Minister, MLA call on Governor

JAMMU, Dec 5: Syed Basharat Ahmed Bukhari, Minister for Horticulture, met Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here today.
Bukhari apprised the Governor about several important issues relating to the rapid advancement of horticulture sector which has a very high potential for generating surpluses and enlarging employment opportunities in the State. Governor stressed on Bukhari the need to exploit the enormous scope for establishing fruit processing units all over the Valley and attending to the protection and diversification of horticulture products.
Keeping in view the very large increase in apple production which is bound to take place in the next few years, when the first lot of high density plantation start bearing fruit, Governor advised Bukhari to undertake timely advance planning for the establishment, by growers and entrepreneurs, the requisite cold chain for preservation of the fruit till it is marketed at maximum gain in late winter. Side by side, processing units should also be set up.
Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen, MLA Khansahib also called on Governor and informed him about the day to day problems facing the people of the Valley, particularly those caused by lack of power supply, and also discussed the larger issues relating to the restoration of a secure and stable environment and resolution of outstanding issues.
Governor urged Yaseen to continue sustained efforts for promoting the growth and the welfare of the people of the State.
G.H. Mir, former Minister also called on Governor and discussed certain issues about the Panchayat elections and the challenges which are continuing to be faced by the people at large in the obtaining security environment in the State. He stressed the need for time bound initiatives being taken to ensure enhanced power generation to meet J&K’s needs.
