Militants snatch AK-47 of Judge’s guard

SRINAGAR, Aug 1: Militants today barged inside a police post guarding the house of a Sessions Judge and decamped with a service rifle of a guard here.
Police said militants overpowered constable Mohammad Iqbal and snatched the AK-47 rifle along with two magazines and 60 rounds from his possession while he was performing duty near the residence of a District and Sessions Judge, Sujat Ali Khan at Qamarabad in Qamarwari area of city.
Khan who is posted as Sessions Judge in Shopian district was inside his home at the time of incident. “The incident occurred at around 2:00 am. The other security guards opened fire but the militants managed to escape.
A case has been registered and further investigations taken up in this regard. The Police and para-military Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) conducted surprise checks of vehicles in Srinagar after the incident.
This is the second militancy related incident in Srinagar during past 24 hours. Earlier, yesterday a private security guard was critically injured in a militant attack outside SMHS Hospital.
