Militants loot Rs 1 lakh from J&K Bank

SRINAGAR, Dec 4: Militants affiliated to Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind outfit led by Zakir Musa today raided Noorpora branch of Jammu and Kashmir Bank in Tral area of Pulwama district in South Kashmir and decamped with around Rs 1 lakh cash.

A police official said three armed militants including Zakir Musa barged into Noorpora bank branch of J&K Bank today afternoon and looted cash worth nearly Rs 1 lakh. The CCTV footage of the incident showed masked militants taking away cash and damaging computer and CCTV camera installed inside the bank.
The militants, according to the police official, stayed for only four to five minutes inside the bank and retreated while firing in air from the spot. A police spokesman claimed that the locals who were present near the Noorpora branch of J&K Bank pushed back the militants with stones.
“The militants retreated from the bank while firing few aerial gunshots and meanwhile managed to take around Rs 1 lakh currency with them. Manhunt has been launched in the area to nab the militants,” he claimed. Shortly after the incident, security forces including Army and Special Operation Group (SOG) of police rushed to the spot and started questioning of bank employees and other persons present during the heist.
So far, no one has been arrested by police even as a search operation was launched in the area. The militant outfit led by Zakir has not issued any statement questioning police claim so far. The Al Qaeda-linked Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind was not named by police before in any armed bank robbery incident in south and central Kashmir and today’s instance is the first one.
