Militants escape

Srinagar, Mar 17: At least three militants managed to escape from cordon after a brief gun battle in Batnoor village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district today.
A police official said that security forces cordoned off village Batnoor in South Kashmir during the night.
A police official said that security forces and Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched search operations at several places in Pulwama after Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) posters appeared asking people to boycott bypoll in Anantnag Parliamentary constituency on April 12.
However, when security forces reached Batnore Lassipora in Pulwama, which is part of Anantnag Lok Sabha seat, they came under fire from militants hiding there at 2 am.
Security forces also retaliated and exchange of fire continued for some time.
Later, additional security forces were rushed to the area, they said, adding that the operation was stopped to avoid any civilian casualty due to darkness.
However, with the first light this morning security forces resumed search operation in the area. They said the operation ended as the militants managed to escape and no arrests were made.
In the meantime, Shopian Police booked a youth under PSA for spreading rumours on social media.
Police had arrested one Ishfaq Ahmad Dar resident of Wandina Shopian on charges of circulating fake news and malicious propaganda to provoke people by using social media.
