Militants’ attack victim at verge of starvation

JAMMU, Dec 28: Paradoxically, where the State Government is extending all help to the victims of militants attack in the Kashmir valley by giving them compensations and jobs, one of the survival of the grenade blast lobbed by militants in a house at Kot Bhalwal area in the year 2001 of the Winter Capital has remained unattended for over one decade.
A terror attack victim who had become handicapped around 12 years back is at the verge of starvation due to the absolute neglect by the Government.
The condition of the victim is so pathetic that his family consisting of old parents, wife and a minor boy are unable to meet their both ends.
On humanitarian ground, villagers are extending help to the militancy victimized family as they do not own a home and are passing the days in a hut.
Somi Kumar, a resident of village Kaleri of Kot Balwal, was a bright student studying in class 7th when he became victim of a grenade attack, which the militants lobbed at his house on January 21, 2001.
The live grenade however exploded two days later on January 23 when he was working at his home.
Kumar became totally disabled as he lost his both hands and one foot, thus instead of becoming a support to his family he became a lifelong burden on them.
As he could not continue his studies, the family appealed the then State Government for giving a class fourth job to him for the survival of the family but unfortunately he was given nothing except assurances.
The terror victim’s father Madan Lal who also got injured in the incident worked for years as a labourer to feed his son and his mother. As his father is now in extreme old age, he can not work anymore and the family is on the verge of starvation.
While interacting with Excelsior, Somi Kumar shared his nightmarish life, which he was living for the past over a decade.
“I urged each and every Minister, MLA and Bureaucrat for help but unfortunately they did not pay any attention to my plight”, Kumar added.
“I also decided to meet Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah to urge upon him for a fourth class job, so that I can feed my family, but I was not even allowed by the security forces to enter into the Civil Secretariat and after spending four days outside Civil Secretariat I returned home with empty hands”.
Kumar has again appealed the Government to come to the rescue of the family by providing him on a class fourth job which he can perform so that he could support his poor family which has lost all hopes of survival.
