Militants attack Army camp

SRINAGAR, June 5: Militants tonight attacked an Army camp in Hajin area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
A group of at least four militants fired four grenades from Under Barrel Rocket Launcher (UBGL) and opened indiscriminate fire upon the Army’s 13 RR camp near Police Station Hajin tonight. However, there was no loss of life or damage to the camp.
Additional reinforcements of Army’s Para Commandos were rushed to the spot. However, militants fled under the cover of darkness and protests by locals. The militants later fired several rounds in air at Hajin Chowk.
Sources said that announcements were made via Public Address System from Masjids asking people to come out on streets following which clashes erupted near the camp.
Security forces have launched operation against the militants responsible for the attack.
Meanwhile, Police today foiled a rifle-snatching bid by the militants in old city area of Srinagar.
Militants approached police guard at Hawal guarding the Mirza Kamil Shrine with an intention to loot weapons. However, Sentry fired some shots forcing the militants to flee. The area was cordoned off to nab the attackers.
And an Army vehicle was damaged in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in Yemberzalwai in outskirts of Sopore in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district today.
The vehicle was partially damaged in the blast without causing injuries to any security men. The area was cordoned off and searches were launched against the militants.
