Militants abduct 5 in Shopian; slit one’s throat, release others

Srinagar, Nov 17: Militants today abducted five persons in Shopian district of South Kashmir, slit one’s throat and let off others. This is the second killing in the area during past three days.
Militants boarding a black colour Bolero this morning abducted three men from Saidpora Payeen in Shopian district of South Kashmir. They have been identified as Shahid Ahmad Ganie son of Mohammad Amin of Saidpora Payeen, Farooq Ahmad Thoker son of Abdul Aziz Thoker of Saidpora Payeen and Huzaif Ashraf alias Raja Qandur son of Mohammad Ashraf of Manzgam, Kulgam.
However, in the evening, two among the three abducted persons were released while as one among them Huzaif Ashraf, son of Mohammad Ashraf alias Raja Kandur of Manzgam Kulgam was killed. His throat slit body was recovered from village Hermain in Shopian.
The same militants abducted two more persons from Mememder, Shopian. They have been identified as Akib alias Raja son of Javid Ganie of Meemander and Ishfaq Ahmad of Pudso Meemander. However, these two persons were later let off by militants.
Police said that a case under relevant Sections of law has been registered in the concerned Police Station and investigation initiated in the matter.
The killing comes nearly two days after a bullet-riddled body of a youth Nadeem Manzoor was recovered at Nikloora village of Pulwama district. He was abducted by the militants from his native village of Safanagri, Shopian on Thursday evening and his body recovered at midnight.
And Hizbul Mujahideen in a video allegedly showing militants killing a youth, claimed that the slain was an Army informer, who got two militants killed. The video, which has gone viral on social media, showed militants pumping a volley of bullets into Nadeem Manzoor, whose body was recovered Friday morning.
A resident of Safanagri village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district, Manzoor was kidnapped by militants on Thursday night. The militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the killing.
In another video shot before his killing, Manzoor, in militants’ custody, is seen telling them that he informed the Army about the presence of militants in his native village.
And security personnel guarding the house of Bhartiya Janata Party leader foiled an attempt from militants to barge into the house in South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
A group of militants tried to barge into the residence of BJP district president, Javaid Qadri. However, the security guards guarding the house fired couple of rounds in air to foil the militants bid. He was not present in the house at the time of incident.
Security forces today detained Shazia wife of Sahab Kallu son of Salam Kallu, resident of Bazer Naidkhai in Bandipora district of North Kashmir for her alleged links with the militants. Shazia had clicked a picture holding AK-47 rifle. Sources said that she is being questioned by the security forces.
It may be mentioned here that early this week, security forces arrested a woman Over Ground Worker (OGW) of militants from a vehicle near Lawveypora area of Srinagar and recovered 20 grenades from her.
Meanwhile, a Panchayat Ghar was set ablaze in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district today.
Police said that unknown persons set afire the Panchayat Ghar in Nutnussa village in Kupwara. This incident happened this evening around 7 to 8 pm resulting in damage to the building.
A team of Fire and Emergency men rushed to the spot to douse off the flames.
Over a dozen Panchayat Ghars were torched during last two months by unknown persons in Kashmir.
