Militant killed in Anantnag

SRINAGAR, Aug 24: A militant of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) was killed in an encounter with security forces in Kokernag area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district today.
A joint team of Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Army cordoned off Gadol village of Vailoo area of Kokernag this morning after tip off about presence of militants in the village.
Militants fired upon the troops during search operation and hiding militants opened fire on them leading to an encounter. Security forces blasted two houses during the operation. Body of a militant was recovered from site of the encounter. However, identity of the slain was not known. The internet was snapped in parts of Anantnag district.
Three civilians were injured during clashes with security forces near site of the encounter in Gadol village. One of the injured, identified as Yawar Ahmad, was brought to district hospital Anantnag for treatment.

A police spokesman said that security forces today launched a search operation in Vailoo area of Kokernag in Anantnag district. “During the search operation, search party came in contact with the militants leading to an encounter and in the ensuing encounter, one militant was killed. Huge quantity of ammunition and incriminating material has been seized from the site of encounter”, he said.
He said: “From the incriminating material seized it is learnt that the killed militant is a Pakistani affiliated with JeM and was involved in several attacks on security forces and civilians in the area. Police has registered a case under relevant Sections of law and investigation has been initiated in the instant matter”.
And militants this afternoon thrashed at least three security guards after barging inside a Police Post in Ichgam village of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
The gunmen barged inside the Police Post guarding a temple at Ichgam area of Budgam in the afternoon. The gunmen barged inside the post with an intention to loot weapons. However, they found no rifle inside and later thrashed the security guards.
The gunmen fired some aerial rounds before leaving from the spot. Senior police officers rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.
Three civilians were injured in clashes that broke out during a cordon and search operation in Redwani Bala village of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district today.
Army and Special Operations Group (SOG) launched searches in Redwani Bala village of Qoimoh this afternoon following inputs about presence of militants. Security forces, however, had to confront the villagers, who came out in protest against security forces.
The protesters pelted stones on security forces, who in turn, resorted to heavy tear shelling in which three protesters were injured. The operation was later called off.
Security forces today cordoned off Hamdard Grammar School in Hamdardabad area of Tral in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district and launched a cordon-and-search-operation. Army’s 42 RR launched the searches following a tip-off about presence of militants inside the school. However, no militant was found.
And thousands of people today attended the last rites of a Forest Department employee who was shot dead by gunmen last night in Kunzer area of Tangmarg in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Thousands of people assembled at a local ground in Kunzer this morning and took part in the funeral prayers of the slain employee. Malik, 38, a resident of Zandpal village, was shot dead by gunmen at his home last night.
Police had blamed Lashkar-e-Toiba for his killing. The militant outfit, however, condemned the killing and said that they were not involved in it.
