Srinagar, Dec 5: A local militant was arrested by security forces from South Kashmir district of Shopian today.
A security force official said that they arrested Bilal Ahmed Sheikh son of Abdul Gani Sheikh of Aglar, Zainapora in Shopian district today.
The official said that Police, 62-RR of Army and 14 Bn CRPF launched an operation after specific information and arrested him. The official said that the militant gave slip to security forces in Village Wurapur a few days ago.
He said that the operation was launched when the security forces received information that militants were planning to carry out a grenade attack in Imam Sahib area when the operation was launched.
During the search operation, troops noticed suspicious movement of a person in the orchards. The suspect immediately tried lobbying a grenade on the security forces with an aim to cause grievous injuries.
“Troops pounced on the militant and overpowered him thereby ensuring that the grenade does not explode. During his search, two more grenades were recovered from his possession”, said the official.
