JAMMU, May 16: A high tension prevailed at Relief Commissioner’s Office here today after one of the migrant leaders who had yesterday given 24 hours time for revocation of attachment order of DC Relief warned to set himself ablaze by sprinkling kerosene oil on his body this afternoon after the dead line ended.
Panic gripped among the employees and officers of the organization as the president of Sampooran Kashmir Sangathan (SKS) Rakesh Kaul warned to set himself ablaze in case the Government fails to meet the deadline.
The protestors including the leaders of various KP organizations including Congress Migrant Cell led by H L Pandita, its general secretaries, C L Kandi and Manohar Pandit, co-convener Shadi Lal Pandita, PDP leaders Ashok Dhar and Nana Ji Raina, NC Migrant Cell chief M K Yogi, BJP Displaced district president Chand Ji Bhat, relief holders representatives led by Sundri Lal Koul and Ravinder Koul, Thinkers Forum led by Kuldeep Pandita, Ravinder Raina , P L Thusoo and A K Sadhoo leading migrants from Jagti township, Daya Krishan from Purkhoo, T N Koul from Muthi camp besides a group of Muslim migrants led by Nazir Ahmed were protesting in the office complex. They were raising slogans in support of their demand.
Sensing trouble the SDM Janipur, besides a team of police reached the spot and tried to pacify the protestors who however were adamant and demanded that the order be rescinded immediately.
As the migrant leader was insisting to take the extreme step, the Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner, M L Raina came out of his office and informed the protestors that he has taken up the issue with Relief and Rehabilitation Minister, Javed Mustafa Mir on phone who assured him that the issue will be sorted out within two days as he had constituted a Committee to investigate the matter. The RRC informed the protestors that Minister had intimated him that some confusion has been created over the issue and it will be sorted out soon.
However the migrants warned to continue the dharna till the order is revoked.
Meanwhile Kiran Wattal president Vishaw Kashmir Pandit Conference urged the Government to revoke the order and not allow the situation to take an ugly turn. He said that no controversy should be created on sensitive issues and keeping in view of the sentiments of the displaced people, the Government should revoke the order. Wattal also appealed the displaced Pandits to maintain a restraint and not to take any extreme step.
