JAMMU, Mar 18: An Inter College Symposium was organized by the Environment Unit of MIER College of Education on the theme ‘Environmental Waste Management -A Step Towards Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’, here today.
Dr CM Seth, IFS and Former Chairperson, WWF, J&K was the chief guest on the occasion. Dr Adit Gupta, Principal MIER College of Education, Dr NR Sharma, Dean Academics, HoDs of different departments, Center Heads along with faculty members and students of MIER College of Education attended the symposium.
Dr Sundeep Jaglan, Scientist, Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), Jammu, Dr Piyush Malaviya, Associate professor, Department of Environmental Science, University of Jammu and Dr Vikash Babu, Scientist, Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM) were the Jury members.
In his welcome address, Dr Adit Gupta, Director MIER hailed the achievements of Dr Seth who is a noted environmentalist and has held various significant positions in numerous government institutions.
Dr. Seth was also the first Registrar and Project Director of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra.
10 students from various Colleges of Education across Jammu city participated in this symposium.
The students presented their views on the theme.
Kalyani Sharma from Shivalik College of Education clinched the 1st prize, Jeya Pushpam representing MIER College of Education won the 2nd prize and Priya Khullar of Dogra College of Education secured 3rd position. Priyanka Sharma from MIER College of Education was given consolation prize. Certificates were also distributed among the participants.
The chief guest, in his address, said we need to rekindle our “Ganga-Yamuna” culture of living in harmony with nature. Dr Seth highlighted that there are various scientific solutions, legal enforcement and awareness campaigns regarding managing the environmental waste but people have to be proactively involved in managing waste as they themselves are the generators of this waste.
He appreciated the cleanliness initiative taken by the government and also appreciated the efforts of the Environment Unit of the college for organizing such programmes.
Monika Bajaj, Incharge, Environment Education Unit presented the formal vote of thanks.
