SRINAGAR, Sept 1: The staff working under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) has demanded the Government to frame a proper job policy for them.
The agitating workers said that they have been working for the last four years and should now be absorbed and regularized in the Rural Development Department.
“We urge Government to raise our salary which has remained stagnant for years. The Government needs to look into plight of those working at grass root level as Program officers, Technical Assistants Junior Engineers, Computer Assistants and Gram Rozgar Sevaks appointed on contract basis,” the protestors said.
They said that while working in the department they are being humiliated by the regular staff.
“During Sixth Pay Commission the salaries of Government employees have been increased manifold but the MGNREGA workers did not get any hike,” they said, stating the salary paid to them was not enough to meet the daily expenses and requirements of their families due to high cost index of essentials, standard of living.
