JAMMU, July 28: All J&K MGNREGA Employees Association held a protest in support of their demands at Press Club, here today.
A large number of MGNREGA employees under the banner of All J&K MGNREGA Employees Association assembled at Exhibition Ground as usual and started raising slogans in support of their demands, which included enhancement of their basic salary and their absorption in Rural Development Department & Panchayati Raj.
Later, the protesting employees, who included Program Officers, MIS Operators, Technical Assistants, Gram Rozgar Sahayaks and Accounts Assistants, staged protest at Dogra Chowk also, where addressing the protesting employees, Sandeep Kalotra, provincial president of the association, said while the deadlock on negotiation between the Government and the protesting employees continued, their peaceful protest across the State entered 20th consecutive day.

He said their strike will continue in all the districts of the State till the demands of the association like framing of job policy, 10 percent hike in the remuneration of contractual staff, focus on employment of women, grant of ex-gratia up to Rs five lakh to MGNREGA employee and contractual staff in the event of death during execution of work, Rs two lakh in the event of permanent disability and Rs 50,000 in case of partial disability, etc are not fulfilled.
Kalotra said that they requested many times to the Government to fulfill their genuine demands but no favorable step was taken so far by the Government. Criticizing the Rural Development Department for terminating services of some MGNREGA employees in different districts, Kalotra said such pressure tactics by the department will not work and if the department continues to make such pressure on the protesting employees, they will resort to mass resignation in coming days.
