Memorial of Kargil Martyr Hav Rajinder Singh unveiled

KATHUA, June 9: The memorial of Kargil war Martyr Hav Rajinder Singh was unveiled at his native village Marta Nagrota in Basholi in the presence of hundreds of the villagers and family members, on his 19th death anniversary.
Hav Rajinder Singh had scarified his life during the Kargil war on June 9, 1999 while fighting on Tiger hills. The memorial was unveiled by Brigadier JS Budhwar, Commander 21 Sub Area, who was the chief guest on the occasion, Marytr’s 75-year-old mother, Shanti Devi and his wife, Kanchan Devi.

Brigadier (Retd) Balbir Singh, State president, J&K Purab Sainik Seva Parishad, Col VS Magotra, Col Virinder Sindhu, Captain Vinod Khajuria, Col (Retd) Mahan Singh and district president, PSSP, Col Harnam Singh were also present and attended the wreath laying ceremony and saluted the Martyr.
While addressing the gathering, Brigadier JS Budhwar said that it is the matter of proud that a young hero of Basholi sacrificed his life in Kargil war and created history. He said, “I salute the mother who gave birth to such brave hero and becomes example and mark of aspiration for young generation of hilly areas”.
Surinder Singh, younger brother of the Martyr, said that his brave brother was very active in young age and always wants to do something extra ordinary. “Before his martyrdom, he was given the task to fight on Tiger hill in Kargil and in line of his duty he never seen behind and sacrificed his life for the sake of motherland.
He said memorial of his martyr brother will serve as an inspiration for young generation to follow the footsteps of martyrs and join the forces to serve the nation.
On the occasion, the Marytr’s family and war widows were also given cheques of Rs 10,000 each. The Army also arranged a free medical camp in the village to check the patient in various diseases. A CSD canteen was also setup to felicitate the ex-servicemen at their door step.
