Mehbooba asks BGSBU to come up as important learning centre

SRINAGAR, Sept 8: Appreciating its flight on the academic canvas, Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti today asked the Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Rajouri to come up as an important centre of learning in the region and the State.
Chairing a meeting to review the functioning of the university here today, the Chief Minister appreciated the progress registered by the University ever since its establishment in 2005  by the then Chief Minister, Mufti Muhammad Sayeed. She noted with appreciation that the University has also come up as an important confluence of different cultures, regions and people.
Minister for Education, Syed Altaf Bukhari and Advisor to Chief Minister, Prof. Amitabh Mattoo were present in the meeting.
Mehbooba Mufti, who is also Chancellor of the University, asked the Vice Chancellor to undertake regular visits of the students of the University to institutes of higher learning in the country so that they inculcate a sense of competitiveness, craving for higher learning and capacity to absorb the fast changing advancements in teaching and research among themselves.
The Chief Minister enquired about the performance of the three Nursing Colleges set up by the University last year at Rajouri, Jammu and Kishtwar. She directed the University administration to start looking upto some medical institutes and industry for the job placement of the students of these colleges when they would complete the courses.
Mehbooba Mufti also directed construction of a guest house on the campus for which she directed release of Rs. two crore as well. She asked the VC to get the work started on the project immediately. She also enquired about the pace of work on the girls hostel and other infra being raised on the campus.
The Chief Minister was informed that 17 national and international companies visited the University during 2016-17 and selected some 200 students during their campus recruitment programmes. It was also informed that during the last financial year the University launched 13 new academic programmes and four skill development courses on the campus.
Chief Secretary, B. B. Vyas; Vice Chancellor, BGSB University, Prof. Javed Mussarat; Principal Secretary, Finance, Navin Choudhary; Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Rohit Kansal; Principal Secretary, Higher Education Department, Dr. Asghar Samoon and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
