Medicines worth Rs 5 lakh dumped in forest

SRINAGAR, July 20: The Government hospital supply drugs worth over Rs 5 lakh were dumped in a forest area of Tangmarg in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
The locals of Gogal Dara area, 15 kilometers from Tangmarg in Baramulla district told Excelsior that two truckloads of medicine, mostly expired, were dumped by some unknown persons in the forest area during the night during night intervening July 8 and 9.
They said that the medicine were again dumped in the forest area last night but this time it was buried. As the locals had raised hue and cry and they informed the Drug and Food Control department who during the intervening night of July 19 and 20 raided the area and recovered medicines.
After receiving the complaint about dumping of medicine in forest area, a team comprising Assistant Drug controller North Kashmir, Muhammad Bashir, Drug Inspector headquarter Baramulla Yousuf Mohi-ud-din, Drug Inspector Pattan Tangmarg, Shabir Ahmad Pandit recovered the medicine from forest area last night.
The locals expressed shock over the issue, saying that the people are being deprived of the medicines while as the officials in the department are doing such unfortunate things.
They also demanded investigation into the matter and appealed the authorities to take strict action against the involved persons.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Baramulla, Dr Bashir Ahmad, told Excelsior that some of the medicines that were dumped in the forests were expired. He said that it was government hospital medicine supplied by the Jammu and Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation. “We have checked our stores and it has not been issued to Tangmarg block. It is not clear whether, it was supplied to the hospitals or not. We have informed the Police as well”, he added.
The CMO said an inquiry has been ordered and Drug Controller Kashmir has also been informed.
