Medical shop owner among two arrested with 66 kgs poppy straw

JAMMU, Feb 22: Miran Sahib police under Operation Sanjeevani arrested two persons including a medical shop owner along with 66 kilograms of poppy straw.
As per police sources, based on reliable information, a team from Miran Sahib police station conducted raid in a medical shop on the name and title “Tyagi Medical Store” at Simble Morh.
During raid, police recovered 47 kilograms of poppy straw concealed in 5 bags from the medical store and arrested its owner, who has been identified as Vijay Bhardwaj, son of Des Raj, a resident of Makhanpur Gujran.
During questioning, the accused revealed that he had purchased the consignment from a truck driver namely Pardeep Singh alias Deepu, son of Rajinder Singh, a resident of Makhanpur Gujran.
Acting on the revelation made by the medical shop owner, police conducted raid and arrested the truck driver. Police also recovered 19 kilograms of poppy straw from the truck.
A case under FIR Number 33/17 under Section 8/29 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against the accused at police station Miran Sahib and further investigation into the case is going on.
Police team led by SHO Miran Sahib Inspector Pawan Kumar and assisted by Incharge BPP Kullian ASI Jugal Kishore made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO RS Pura Surinder Choudhary and SP Headquarters Jammu Romesh Kotwal.
