Medical employees stage protest, highlight demands

JAMMU, Apr 12: Jammu Kashmir Medical Employees Federation (JKMEF) today held a sit-in-protest at Madam Shashi Bala Memorial Park in the premises of Directorate of Health Services (DHS) Jammu.
Medical employees of almost all the categories drawn from all over the Jammu province participated in the protest. The leaders/representatives of the block/district/ provincial units highlighted their grievances during the protest and raised slogans in support of their demands.
The burning demands of the JKMEF include issuance of DPC orders of all the categories, implementation of amendment of SRO 20 dated 24-02-1992 which is pending since more than 15 years, upgradation of posts of Pharmacists as Senior Pharma-cist, Supervisor Pharmacist, Head Pharmacist, Block Pharmacy Officers and District Pharmacy Officer, and framing regularization policy for the Para Medical staffed engaged under SRO 384/409 in GMC Jammu.
The demands also include enhancement of FTA of Field staff (Malaria/Leprosy) from Rs 45 to Rs 1000 per month, promotion of Female Multipurpose Health Workers who are trained LHVs in new OHCs and fixation of 50% quota for promotion as Health Educators, rank promotion to FMPHWs at par with Pharmacists, Laboratory, Dental Technicians and others, removal of pay anomalies in the pay scale of Ministerial Staff and other categories, overtime allowance to all those employees who are performing 12 hours night duty as per Labour laws, etc.
In his concluding address, Sushil Sudan, president, JKMEF, announced that a chain of protest dharnas will be observed district wise in Jammu division in support of the employees’ demands, which will be started on April 28 from district Udhampur, followed by district Rajouri on May 9, Poonch on May 10, Samba on May 14, Reasi on May 17 and Kathua on May 22. He said these protest dharnas will be continued till the redressal of all their demands.
