Measures to ensure security at Punjab border posts taken: Govt

NEW DELHI : The government today said that it has taken necessary measures to ensure security at all border posts, including Attari, in Punjab after a recent suicide attack at Wagah border.
“The government closely monitors all incidents in the neighbourhood, including at the border which can impact India’s security and territorial integrity.
“The government has been taking all necessary measures to ensure security at all our border posts including at Attari in the state of Punjab,” Minister of State for External Affairs V K Singh informed Lok Sabha in a written reply.
He was answering a query on whether the government has assessed the security situation at the border in the wake of Wagah incident.
More than 50 people, including children and security personnel, were killed and hundreds were injured after a powerful suicide blast at Wagah in Pakistan on November 2, minutes after the popular flag-lowering ceremony at the main Indo-Pakistan land border crossing.
The Minister said that the government desires peaceful and cooperative relations with Pakistan and the government is committed to a dialogue for establishing such relations and resolve all outstanding issues through bilateral dialogue on the basis of Simla Agreement and Lahore Declaration.
“For a meaningful dialogue, an environment free from the threat of terror and violence is essential,” he said.
Replying to another question, he said that Pakistan has been unsuccessfully resorting to anti-India propaganda around the world in order to divert international attention from its continued policy of sponsoring and using terrorist groups against India.
“The government has been raising the issue from time to time in appropriate international fora; due to these strong and purposive international engagements, the international community recognizes Pakistan links with cross-border terrorism in India as also the responsibility of the government of Pakistan to put an end to it,” he said.
