The # Me Too`Campaign started from America but now a days has taken India in its stride.. Me Too word is becoming very popular in India due to unveiling of different cases regarding sexual harassment . In India, on one side, we treat women as Goddesses and on other side, we harass them, what a paradox it is ! One of the good things about this campaign is that now women are somehow gathering their courage to unveil the ugly truth of their life. For a woman, it is not easy to expose such ugly truths(Mental and Sexual harassment) because by doing this they have to face patriarchal society in which importance is always given to male actions. Women in India are now using the platform provided by this campaign courageously for raising their voices more loudly. Unwelcome gestures, derogatory comments ,bad touch etc comes under the purview of sexual harassment. Generally, vulnerable women become the target of powerful male predators at work places.
In 1997, a set of guidelines had been provided by Supreme court popularly known as Vishakha Guidelines for prevention of Sexual harassment at work place. Section 354 of IPC (Indian Penal Code) considers a male as criminal if his intentions is to outrage the modesty of a woman. Sexual harassment of woman at work place Act,2013 is also meant for empowering the women at work place.
Article 21 `Right to Life `in our constitution also directs that every person has right to live a dignified life. Implementation of these laws would remain meaningless till thinking of our patriarchal society remains stiff or unchanged.It is our fundamental duty also to respect women and not pass any derogatory remarks to them. Now time has arrived when we have to make such environment in which women feel liberated and do not hesitate to expose any bad ugly incidents of their life. At last we should change our mentality towards womens swiftly because “Jab Soch Badlegi Tabhi Toh Badlega India”.
