Md. Sporting opt out of national scene due to fund crunch

Kolkata, Oct 20:
Mohammedan Sporting, one of India’s oldest clubs with a rich legacy, today decided to leave the national football scene for this season due to severe financial crisis.
The 123-year-old Maidan-based club was to play in the I-League second division this season which is expected to start in December but it has now decided to pull out of the tournament. The club has also decided to skip the ongoing Durand Cup in Goa.
“We will not play in the I-League and Durand Cup in the upcoming season,” club president Sultan Ahmed said.
Ahmed dismissed reports that the club has been disbanded, saying that it will still play in the local league.(PTI).
