MCC Bhaderwah crushes Forest XI in Chief Minister’s Cup

JAMMU, Feb 26: Power-packed 92 runs by Irshad Akhtar and a disciplined 51 by former First Class cricketer, Shafqat Baba, coupled with 4-wicket haul by left-arm spinner, Abid Mushtaq helped Masood Cricket Club (MCC) Bhaderwah to crush J&K State Forest team by a big margin of 140 runs in the ongoing 1st State Level Cricket Tournament for Chief Minister’s Cup, being organized by Country Cricket Academy in collaboration with J&K State Sports Council at Gharota, near here.
Earlier, put into bat, MCC Bhaderwah lost early wickets and were struggling at a meagre 60/7 at one point of time. However, Irshad Akhtar’s brisk 92 off just 37 balls, studded with 11 massive sixes and a valuable 51 including 4 sixes by Shafqat Baba enabled the team to score a decent total of 210 runs. For J&K State Forest team, Zahid took 3 wickets, while Suhail, Khursheed and Manzoor bagged 2 wickets each and Amit Sharma claimed one wicket.
In reply, J&K Forest team bundled out for a paltry total of 71 runs in 20 overs. None of the batsmen was able to make big contribution and only three batsmen crossed the double figure mark. For MCC, Abid Mushtaq was the pick of the bowlers, who scalped 4 important wickets, while Mehram Ganai and Khalid Akhtar took 2 wickets each. Shafqat Baba and Adil Wani claimed one wicket each. Irshad Akhtar of MCC Bhaderwah was adjudged as man of the match for his brilliant 92 runs.
The match was officiated by Sadiq Hussain Malik and Shiv Kumar as umpires, while Lakshay Khajuria was the scorer.
Vivek Sharma, former Ranji trophy player was present on the occasion and felicitated the players. He was accompanied by CCA members Ashwani Kumar and Shugal Sharma.
