Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Wednesday said violent incidents occurred at 200th anniversary celebration of Koregaon-Bhima battle was an attempt to suppress the self esteem of the Dalits.
In a statement released here, Ms Mayawati alleged that it was conspiracy to incite riots to take political mileage. Ms Mayawati said as per expectations, people of Dalit community gathered there to commemorate 200th anniversary celebration but they were attacked by the miscreants. Maharashtra Government has failed to control the situation, she added.
The BSP president expressed grief over the death of a Dalit in clashes occurred that day and demanded every possible help for the family of the deceased. (PTI)
