RAMBAN, Sept 9: Massive traffic jam in Ramban and Ramsu areas of Jammu -Srinagar National Highway for several hours, irked the passengers today.
Sources said that due to narrow patches along the highway in Magarkote, Battery Chashma and Ramsu area after recent land slides, the vehicles on one side are made to stop. Since there are no sufficient number of Traffic Police officials deployed along the highway at the troubled points there, the traffic jams have become the order of the day.
Several commuters from these troubled areas made calls to Excelsior office telling that massive traffic jam has been created in Ramsu and Ramban area since morning and many light, medium and heavy vehicles have been stranded for several hours. They also alleged that there were no police or traffic cops available at some troubled points to regulate the traffic while general passengers were left to suffer.
A senior Police officials when contacted said that recently large boulders fell down on the highway in Ramsu area and road remained closed for two days. The Highway authorities blasted rocks and made Massage for movement of traffic. He said there are two such points where two-way traffic is not possible as large patch of highway has been damaged. It will take few days to repair the highway and raise a concrete wall from the gorge side. He said that Highway authorities have been asked to expedite work to widen the road at these narrow patches. He said the traffic however, was made smooth on the highway in the afternoon.
