Massive search operations launched in Shopian, Pulwama

SRINAGAR: Security forces on Saturday launched massive search operations in Pulwama and Shopian in south Kashmir, where a militant attack on a police post was repulsed Friday night.
On a specific information about the presence of militants, the security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in about half-a-dozen villages, including Kanigam and Kasbaiyar in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, official sources said.
They said Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF sealed all exit points in these villages early Saturday morning to conduct search operation.
The house-to-house operation was going on when the reports last came in. However, so far, no contact has been established with the militants, they said, adding that no one was detained. Sources said security forces also launched CASO at several villages, including Chakoora and Keller Imamsahib, in Shopian district since early this morning.

Meanwhile, the security forces repulsed a militant attack on a police post near general bus stand at Anantnag on Friday night.
The militants resorted to indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons near the bus stand causing panic.
People in the area ran for safety after hearing the firing. Security forces and police personnel immediately retaliated but the militants managed to escape under the cover of darkness. (AGENCIES)
